Buyer's FAQ

Stainless steel,
answered plainly.

The questions Indian fabricators and MSMEs ask us most — on pricing, grades, finishes, certificates and delivery. Still stuck? Send a spec and we'll advise.

How is stainless steel priced in India?

Stainless steel is sold per kilogram (₹/kg), and the rate moves daily with the LME nickel price. GST (18%) is added on top. We quote a firm ₹/kg for your exact grade, size and quantity — no hidden charges, with a GST invoice on every order.

What is the difference between 202 and 304 stainless steel?

Grade 202 is a low-nickel, manganese-bearing austenitic steel — roughly 25% cheaper than 304 — and is fine for indoor, decorative and utensil use. But it corrodes faster and is not suited to food-contact, wet or coastal applications. Grade 304 contains 8–10.5% nickel, resists corrosion much better, and is the general-purpose default. We stock both and will tell you honestly which suits your job.

When should I use 316 or 316L instead of 304?

316 and 316L add 2–3% molybdenum, which greatly improves resistance to chlorides, salt air and chemicals. Use 316L for coastal locations (such as the Chennai seafront), food, dairy, pharma and chemical service. 304 is fine for dry indoor use. 316 typically costs 30–60% more than 304.

Do you provide a mill test certificate (MTC)?

Yes. Every consignment ships with an EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate, traceable to the heat number, listing the chemistry and mechanical properties of the actual material delivered. Third-party inspection is always welcome.

Is there a minimum order quantity?

No. We cut to size and supply anything from a single sheet to a full lot — an MSME taking one sheet is quoted as fairly as a bulk buyer. Every order comes with a proper GST invoice.

How can I be sure I'm getting the correct grade and not 202 sold as 304?

Ask for the mill test certificate and check the heat number, and you can run a quick on-site molybdenum/nickel spot test or PMI (positive material identification). Khianox guarantees the exact grade you ordered — we never substitute a cheaper grade to protect a margin.

Which grades and product forms do you stock?

Grades 201, 202, 304, 304L, 316, 316L, 409, 430, 310S and Duplex 2205 — in coils, sheets, plates, strips/slit coil, pipes & tubes, bars & rods, angles/flats/channels, wire, circles, fittings & flanges, chequered/tread plate, and decorative/PVD sheet.

What surface finishes are available?

2B (mill), BA (bright annealed), No.4 brushed, hairline, No.8 mirror, bead blast, and PVD colours such as gold, rose-gold and black. We finish in-house to a consistent specification.

What sheet sizes do you supply?

Standard sizes are 8×4 ft (2438×1219 mm) and 8×3 ft, plus cut-to-size to your dimensions. Sheet thickness is 0.3–6.0 mm; plate is 5 mm and above; coil width is up to 1500 mm.

Which areas do you deliver to?

From our George Town, Chennai base we supply across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh — including Chennai, Coimbatore, Bengaluru, Kochi and Vijayawada.

Are you an authorized distributor?

Yes — Khianox is an authorized distributor of Jindal Stainless (India's largest stainless producer) and SAIL Salem Steel (Tamil Nadu's own stainless mill), so you receive genuine mill-grade material with full documentation.

How do I get a quote?
